This one mistake cost me by my calculation, half a million dollars. About three or so years ago, someone from Udemy. And marketing actually called me up. We had a consultation, he said, TJ, we're telling all of our course creators to create more courses. We really see that as the future for online instructors, but you're different. You got almost too many courses.
My advice to you TJ is consolidate, create master courses in your niche, my niches in public speaking, presentation skills, media training, removes some of your courses and create master courses that can really dominate their niche. I was polite, I listened to everything but I got busy with my main public speaking practice and traveling all over the world training, and I just never got around to it. Well, just a few months ago, I checked the insights section. Udemy which is available in the instructor section of the website, and I looked and what the number one course in my niche public speaking was making per month, $13,000 a month. The number one course in presentation skills 10,000 a month the number one course in media training, my really dominant niche 3000 a month. Now I have courses on all of those, but I didn't create the master course I didn't listen to what Udemy people were actually telling me.
If I had just spent a couple of days really consolidating courses. I'm convinced I would have been number one in those sectors. You add that up over the last four years or so that's easily half a million dollars in revenue. And I just let it slip through my fingers. So my big advice to you or listen to what Udemy people say if they're willing to take your call, if they email you with suggestions. If they give you suggestions after you've uploaded your course.
Listen to them. They know what they're talking about. They're not talking to hear themselves talk. They want you to succeed. They want me to succeed because they make more money that way. The better the course.
The more sales everyone wins. So, first big piece of advice. Anytime someone from you to me hauls you, right to get you on a conference call. Your response better be Yes, sir. Yes, ma'am. Whatever you say, Right away, sir.
That needs to be your attitude. It wasn't mine. It was a half a million dollar blunder.
