When you're anchoring, you need to be able to know how to read the teleprompter because most new sets, it's still the most efficient way of getting you a bunch of information quickly about a whole bunch of different topics. Now, not everyone has to be the traditional Eyewitness News, serious broadcast at six and 11. You may have a fashion newscast and everyone is very casually dressed and it's a little more laid back. But if you're reading teleprompter, you're reading teleprompter. And you really have two choices. Are you going to make it seem like you're just having a conversation with people, and it's believable and you seem natural and relaxed?
Or are you going to seem amateurish and scared and stiff and people can see every little eye movement? You certainly don't want to be like that. Here's the thing. If you're a corporate executive giving a speech using a teleprompter, or someone doing a corporate video, once a quarter people will forgive that But if you're putting out a regular newscast, whether it's broadcast TV Cable, whether it's your own internet channel, your YouTube channel, if you want to position this as news, people are going to hold you to higher standards because people are used to watching news anchors every day who are really good at this because they've been reading teleprompter for 20 3040 years. So Americans and people around the world are very good at spotting bad news readers, bad teleprompter readers. So if you want to be credible as a news anchor, and as a reporter who occasionally sits at the news anchor desk and asked to introduce segments, you need to be great when it comes to how you use the teleprompter.
