So it's not enough to just listen, I would listen to people when they criticize, but I didn't, frankly, do much. When people give you feedback on your course, you need to do everything you can to make the changes necessary. And if something's missing, or videos gone bad and occasionally happens, or there's something confusing, make the changes. Because if you just say, Oh, thanks for your feedback and don't do anything, other people can notice that and it can cut against you. Now, I want to give you a couple of really quick wins, easy wins that I wasn't following these. But these are just easy, easy, autumn requires no intelligence.
It does require a little bit of time. But it's been sorry for the American football analogy. This is awful, and I try not to do it, but it's what we call basic blocking and tackling. And I try not to use too many sports analogies, especially American only sports analogies. Hey, he wouldn't be as international one of the most exciting things about Udemy is every day I see the proportion of my students from the US going down. It's down to only 35%.
And I have students and as of today, 181 Nation. So that's what's very exciting about you to me and why you don't want to use analogies like blocking and tackling. But here the simple things you got to do that I didn't do Udemy allows you to promotional emails every month, use them. I'm kicking myself every so often I would do that over the last four years. And I would look in it wouldn't be a substantial amount, but several hundred dollars worth of sale and I was doing it the worst possible way. Just saying here's a coupon all my courses, but you add that up over four years, we're talking a couple of thousand dollars.
I completely lost throughout the windows, so use your promotional emails to students, you can you're limited to two per month, the best way of doing it is to focus on one course and really get a strong sales pitch in that field webinar has a great section in his course, on how to do online courses where he walks you through. He essentially sell sends this whole sales page in an email, nice graphics for his two promotional emails a month. Next, educational announcements. I have been horribly lazy on this and I've paid for it. When you communicate with your students by giving something of a pure educational value, and engage with the course more, they like you more, they give you higher ratings, they're more likely to talk about you to other people. They're also more likely to frankly call you up and hire you for whatever it is you do doing it in person, or you can charge a lot more, which has happened to me as well.
So you really want to use the educational announcements all for. He really, really used them every single month because that's the way you're going to create a stronger bond a stronger relationship with your community of students. Again, I'm not holding myself out as an expert on Udemy. I don't work with them. I can't tell you technically how their algorithms work, but you certainly hear from enough different sources that Udemy tracks how quickly you engage with students, the level of engagement, the questions that they post back your interactions, the more engagement the more activity on Udemy on your course, the more likely they are to push yours up higher when people are searching for your topic. As I mentioned in a previous lecture, this is relationship you spend time in it.
You give me some love. You give me students some love, love, we'll come back to You. So make sure you are responding to reviews, sending out all of your promotion, it's only two a month. People can always unsubscribe if they don't like it, send out the promotional messages send out the educational messages get horribly neglected. Most course creators don't do that. It's a missed opportunity.
Next Udemy has this thing called automatic messages. They didn't have that when I signed up. But it's an automatic message. So as soon as someone purchases your course, or goes into it, they get an automatic message from you. And what I'm finding now is people are happy to respond to that it makes them feel like you care, because a huge percentage of instructors Don't bother. There's also a final message when someone completes the course.
Again, it's really simple to do. You set it up once and you forget about it, and yet there's constant condition. Between you and students at different points of their experience with your course. So please set that don't wait for years before setting up your automatic messages the way I did
