Now it's time to fracture our lecture when I show you the lecture, I just been talked to people. What you should be doing is talking to the camera as if you were talking to one person. Because when people started to talk like this, okay, class now we're gonna it really looks and sounds awful online. Remember, people could be watching you on their cell phone, with earbuds and it just sounds awful. If you have that tone of voice, and they can't see a whole crowd, so just act like you're talking to one person. So in a moment, I'm gonna ask you to pull out yours if you don't have your whole in house studio ready yet, I'm gonna ask you to pull out your cell phone and to practice a lecture or using a webcam to look and see how you're coming across.

So here are the basics. When you're speaking on camera, you want to move your head move your face, move your body and move your hands what a lot of people do Something like this, I want to get my notes just right, follow my outline and you see how nothing is really moving but my lips, people can't stand listening or watching to someone like that. So it really comes down to, you've got to move your head. Now that seems odd because the natural thing to do is if you're looking at cameras to kind of go like this, and to freeze your head, that's the natural thing. So I'm not telling you to act natural because this is a very unnatural environment. You're talking to a camera.

I'm asking you to act. But I'm asking you to act the way you do when you are relaxed talking to a friend or talking to one student, or talking to one trainee that you would help in real life. The main things to keep in mind is you have to move your face. Move your body and yes move your hands the idea that oh professional speakers, most of them have their hands on the lectern app absolute nonsense. You will Want to move your hands, your body, your face, there needs to be movement. And you need to sound conversational think to the best trainer teacher you ever saw.

Junior high school, middle school, high school, college graduate school. I guarantee you your favorite teacher didn't read a lecture. They didn't read bullet points off of a slide. They didn't just sort of have all the words and kind of go through the they talk to you. Because they knew this stuff. They believe this stuff.

They ate it, they slept it they dreamt it. That's how you have to come across. If you're going to teach online and reach people, part of what you're doing. I hate the term motivational speaker. It sounds so cheesy and it evokes images of Anthony Robbins have your goals. That's not what I'm talking about.

But if you're going to be a good teacher, guess what? You have to be a good motivational speaker. by that. I mean you're speaking you have to move motivate people to get excited about your subject. Doesn't matter if it's physics, or rock collecting whatever your subject is, you have to motivate them that has to come through with your voice and your energy. You can't do that if you're reading.

I'm sorry, it's not going to happen. You're not here as a newscaster, you're here as a teacher and as a trainer. So what I'm going to ask you to do right now is, think of just a couple of minutes of content. What would you say? If you could introduce a class and individual to your subject matter? Give them an overview, I want you to talk for two or three minutes.

If nothing else, hold your cell phone, where you can see yourself I'd rather use a webcam. That way, you can move both hands, have a little more distance, and get a better sense of how the final product will look. But that's your homework right now. I need you to video record yourself giving your first lecture on the topic. of your choice. I don't really care what you say yet.

I just want you to get used to looking at yourself speaking on camera, and then I want you to watch the video. None of this is any good if you don't watch it, I need you to watch the video and figure out what do you like? What do you not like? That's the homework. Do it now.
