What work cycles work best for you, everyone has a natural rhythm. Now there's something known as the Pomodoro Technique. You've seen this in all the other productivity books and courses, and it boils down to this, you should work in concentrated bursts for 25 minutes, and then take a break. And this goes on throughout the day, occasionally a longer break. I don't think there's anything magical. About 25 minutes, I think you do need to experiment.
For some people, they're far better off working intently for 10 minutes and then getting up and doing jumping jacks for a minute. Other people maybe the magic number is half an hour, I would suggest you experiment. What you don't want to do is just tell yourself, I'm gonna work hard today. You just sit with your butt glued to the chair and you know, move for six hours, because then that can destroy you for the next two days. Maybe your body one to react to that it wants to go so far in the other direction, you create a counter reaction. And it can create a negative spiral downwards in terms of your energy and productivity.
I'm a big believer in taking breaks, frequent breaks. To get up stretch, go to another part of the office and other part of the house, do something different. Check mail, say hello to someone. You can't do it too often or you never get anything done. But certainly once every half an hour or twice an hour, I think is a good goal to have. So experiment with that.
What is the optimum length of time for you to be working at a desk whether you're sitting or standing, some people do standard desk these days? And then at what point do you need to take a break? Share with us your thoughts? share with me your thoughts on that? How often do you currently take breaks? Are you willing take breaks more often.
Again a break doesn't have to be 15 minutes and going three blocks away to the courtyard to smoke. It could be just standing up, stretching, getting a fresh glass of water and you're gone for one minute. That's one reason why I do like to drink a lot of water throughout that it's healthy for many reasons. Part of it is it's an excuse to get up and go get fresh water. Part of it is you drinking water all day long. You're taking another trip somewhere too.
So it does get you out of your seat.
