TJ, I've heard the advice that when you're giving a presentation, you should tell them what you're going to tell him. Tell him. Tell him what you told him. Is that good advice? My answer is no. It's frankly, awful advice.
Here's the problem with this. If you tell somebody what you're going to tell them, and you tell them and you tell them what you told them, but it was boring each time, they're not going to remember it, you're far better off speaking in the present. Tell people one idea at a time. Make it interesting. make it memorable, make it useful. Tell a story.
You're using PowerPoint, have an image that drives it home. Make your ideas come alive, so that someone can see it, taste it, feel it, touch it. Much more effective than just going through this procedural tell them what you're going to tell them tell them it just doesn't work.
