Productive people are constantly seeking out new sources of inspiration. Now, depending on where you live, it could be at a corner restaurant that has great musicians. It could be at local museums, it could be anywhere, it certainly could be online. I like to spend about a week a month in Manhattan, in part because it has so many great practitioners of the creative arts. And it also has so many excellent museums that has some of the greatest artwork in the entire world all here. So if you like sculpture or painting, any type of artistry, it's here.
And that's why I do spend a fair amount of time in museums. I don't personally aspire to be a sculptor. But when I see sculpture in the modern Museum of Art that's stood the test of time that has captivated audiences all over the world. Sometimes for thousands of years, it motivates me to try even harder to be more creative. It's why I go see a lot of live stand up comedy at the comedy cellar, which is a premier comedy club in New York City because the most successful comedians in the world perform there, and they work out new material there. So it's inspiring seeing these people being productive.
And quite often they're trying out new material, and it doesn't always get big laughs But they're trying and you can see the act of creation. So whether it is a musician or it's going to the opera again, I'm not a huge opera fan. But it is once in a while interesting to go see an opera or a symphony and get exposed to new art forms, and see people who excel at a world class level that's how I get inspiration. You might get inspiration by looking at world famous speakers on YouTube or TED Talks, something I also do. I do recommend that to increase your own productivity. Keep your eyes upward.
Look at people who are already demonstrating high levels of productivity in completely different fields. He will inspire you, especially when you think of what people had to deal with in previous generations and in different millennia, where they still made enduring works of art, no computer, no electricity, no clean water half the time. And yet, they still were massively. No spellcheck, they still were massively productive when I see people and works of art that have been created in those situations. It makes me feel fresh A little bit lazy and insecure about what I've created. It also motivates me to do even more.
So that's why I urge you wherever you live in the world, seek out people who've already been productive and have created great works of art or culture. If you can see them live even better, it's even more inspirational.
