Marketing isn't just about how you get someone to call you the first time or meet with you. It's also about how you position yourself in front of them once they've started talking to you. A huge drawback many freelancers have is they simply take too long, giving a prospect a proposal. I have a firm policy at my company, which is every single prospect who contacts me gets a proposal that day, typically, in one hour. Now, if it's seven o'clock at night, and I sent an email, I'm already relaxing with my family. Okay, the next business morning.

Let's not be fanatical about it. But I constantly talk to my own clients who say yeah, they wrote a whole bunch of other media training presentation training firms, and half of them didn't even get back. Half of them took a week to get back. They got Mine the same day makes it simple. When people are focused on something, make it easy for them to take the next step. Sometimes they might just ask for a rate sheet.

Now I never just send a rate sheet with what I do, I always send a proposal, spelling out all the value because again, I don't want to be compared on price. I want to be compared on value. Now I have attached below my six basic proposals that kind of covers all the main things people hire me for. It's not that I want you to duplicate it, but I want it to stimulate thought with you. I want you to see how I do it. I'm not creating an individualized proposal for every single prospect.

Your business may be different. If it's a much larger project, if you're asking for 50,006 figure consulting project, yeah, they're going to want you to give a more detailed, personalized approach. With my freelancing business people are typically looking at hiring me or someone for a day for a public speaking workshop or immediate trading workshop. So on the one hand, every training is a little bit different. On the other hand, every training is the same and everyone wants the same basic components. So I can get away with giving them essentially a form letter.
