You deserve a pay raise every single year you're learning you're researching, you're out there hustling, I believe you deserve a pay raise. Well, the only way to do that are by far the best way to do that is to raise your prices every year. Well, some people grumble Sure. Well, some people complain short. If they're not complaining, that means your prices are too low. Now, I'm not suggesting you do arbitrarily add an additional service added additional benefit.
I'm always trying to add additional services. So just recently, now in my proposals as if any one I train wants to text me with a question at any point in the next year, I'll answer them back in video. It's a minor thing, but for some people, they don't want to call me they don't want to email but but they don't mind texting, so I'm always adding something else to justify higher You need to do that too for several reasons, your clients will respect you more. The marketplace will respect you more. And you'll frankly Enjoy your work but who doesn't enjoy getting a pay raise? Here's the other thing I found out.
That is a little bit counterintuitive. The more I charge my clients, the happier they are. The more they respect me, the more they actually listen to me, which means the more they actually improve. Back when I only charge $1,000 a day. Clients can sometimes ignore me not take it seriously want to leave a little earlier. Now that I charge many, many, many times more than that.
Clients listen to every word. They show up on time. They stay late, they pay attention, they put their cell phones away, they do exactly what I asked them to do. They actually improve a great deal more and they feel much better about it. Think of it this way. And I may be dating myself with this experience this example but think of it this way.
Would you rather have a $50 watch or a $5,000? Watch? Not really. So you don't wear watches anymore. Most people would rather have the $5,000 watch. fancier sends a certain message.
Both of them tell time. And frankly, a $50 digital watch tells much better time. Then a $5,000 $25,000 traditional watch so it's not even about the service. People value things that cost more. as a freelancer. You got to break this mentality of Oh, what they think I'm not good enough.
Let me meet their budget. Let me be cheaper. No. Position yourself as high end. charge more. Give yourself a raise every single year.
Now, there are time recessionary times people are tightening budgets, you may have to be creative. Think of it as selling an additional service. So in recent years, I've tried to sell more of my two day programs, well, I'm getting twice as much. And so there's more revenue there. Try to bring in an online, maybe you raise the prices for one of your online courses or create a higher end online course, doesn't always have to be your core service. But ideally, it is you need to always be thinking about how can you charge more, create more value?
Yes, charge more get. I don't want to sound like I'm some money grubbing person. The only thing that matters is money. But money gives you power. It gives you power to attend more conferences. Maybe you want to go to the main TED conference and just learn more so you're better at your craft.
Well, tickets are $5,000 plus. Maybe you want to Got a Davos Well, you can spend $50,000 going there attending things. So, even if you don't care about money, there are ways you can use that money to learn more, to educate yourself more, to build your business more to create more content to to even give away to people if that's what you want to do. So always be thinking about how to raise your prices.
