Is it okay it is alcohol, beta blockers, marijuana to calm me down before giving a presentation. I'm not passing moral judgment on anyone. I want to give you just pure information that I think is in your own self interest for presentations. The answer is I would avoid all of those things. They might make you feel more relaxed, but that's not the issue. The issue is what's going to make you actually come across your best when you're giving your presentation.
So when it comes to alcohol, that can sometimes make people's face read may get sweaty a little bit can also make it harder to recall information. So if you're already a little nervous and that extra second to retrieve information, it can seem even longer it can seem to three times as long. So my advice, don't have any alcohol until after the speech after the presentation. Beta blockers I've had clients do that and they seem like zombies. Oh, they felt relaxed, but they didn't come across as competent energetic to their audience. These days, more and more states in the United States and around the world.
Marijuana is legal. So it's perfectly legal for some people to use marijuana. Again, I don't see how it actually helps you be more interesting and memorable to your audience. If it makes you more mellow, it could make your voice more monotone, could lower your energy level could make you less responsive to your audience. Those are not good things. Again, if you're nervous before giving a presentation, the easiest way to get over that nervousness is not with a drink or a toke or anything else.
It's to practice on video until you've seen yourself give a great presentation. That is the number one way to get rid of nerves.
