Productive people aren't necessarily high tech inventors. You don't have to be a high tech inventor, but you do have to be in the technology of your era. You do have to know how technology works. Imagine that 10 years ago, you're in business and you're trying to call someone on their cell phone. They tell you, I don't have a cell phone. Imagine if five years ago you're telling an important vendor or consultant, someone working for you.
You're trying to reach them. And you need to text them some information. They said, Why don't do texting? What would you think of that person? Not very impressive. I remember my first job more than 30 years ago and everyone was excited.
On the second floor, there was a fax machine. No one ever had one before. And it was really exciting to use it and then after a decade and a half, everyone had a fax machine and now nobody has a fax machine. So you don't need to have fax knowledge anymore. You've got to know what works in your current era, and how people that you care about your family, your friends, your clients, your customers, people you work with, how do they like to use technology? The single biggest productivity tip I have for you right now, if you really want to get just a little bit ahead of the game, is to use video, just pull up your cell phone and use video more often.
There's not a day that goes by without me using video to communicate with clients customers. I'm communicating with you that way through video right now. And the beauty of video is it's often faster than typing or handwriting and finding an envelope and a stamp with when you reach out with people on video, they can see you they can hear you They can rewatch it. Research shows people under 35 actually prefer consuming information. By video. If you have a website, and you have text on it, that's fine.
But anything you have with text you should do with video as well. You don't have to hire a big production crew, just talk to your own cell phone. And that will make you more effective. It saves me massive, massive amounts of time. Because I can do something once I can send a prospect video, put it on my website and use it over and over and over again, I can put an answer to a client's question on a video on YouTube. People can watch it every day for the next 10 years.
So I believe we have to certainly know how to use computers and keyboards and cell phones. But if you want to get just a little bit ahead, get comfortable using video on a daily basis. They'll be more about this further in the course to give you practical tips, but that mindset change rather than typing, speaking on video, and it will save you massive amounts of time. By the way, I mentioned earlier in a productivity tip, it'll eliminate distractions. Don't try to do everything at once. Did you hear that?
Well, that's because I violated my own principle. It didn't have the volume off. on my computer, I just now turned it off. I hope it didn't distract you too much. But that's why I want to make this a learning moment. If you're trying to do something, eliminate distractions and do that one thing right now.
I'm making a video for you on how to be more productive. So shame on me. I shouldn't have had my speaker on which would then give me alerts to downloads going on with my computer. The other big lesson They're, nobody's perfect. Don't beat yourself up if you're not 100% productive all the time, because I'm not either
